Half Day Gathering: Saving the Seasons via pickling, canning and fermenting


We've partnered with The Ranch at Canyon Ridge to create an unforgettable half day gathering that you will not want to miss.  The Ranch is perched on a majestic hillside where you can visit with their farm animals, take in their stunning views and learn how to save the seasons. The gathering will include hands on instruction on pickling, canning and fermenting. Lite appetizers and wine and refreshments will be also be served. 


Class Offering: Learn the basics on how to save the seasons using three different food preservation methods: Pickling, canning and fermenting. Participants will learn how to create a seasonal quick pickle, how to can fruits and vegetables using water bath canning methods by canning a seasonal jam as well as pickled vegetables and lastly, how to ferment vegetables by creating seasonal kraut and kimchi and ferment fruits by preparing seasonal fruit shrubs. Everyone will walk away with lots of food preservation knowledge and custom labeled jars of canned and pickled fruits and vegetables and shrubs.

About Emma: Emma is an educator, home cook, holistic nutritionist, yogi, healthy lifestyle coach and most importantly, a mother who cares about her children and how they are being raised in this world. Growing up on a farm in the Central Valley she gained an appreciation for the earth, local ingredients and home-cooked meals. After her children were born she started fermenting, canning and dabbling in urban homesteading life. Currently, she cooks whole nourishing foods daily, is co-founder of Women’s Heritage and Heritage Goods and Supply, a curated country store in Carpinteria California where she teaches classes on fermentation, food preservation and cooking. When she’s not in the kitchen Emma enjoys being outside and in nature with her family and is excited to share her passion of cooking and wellbeing with others. 

About The Ranch at Canyon Ridge: The ‘Ranch at Canyon Ridge’  is located in the heart of the Santa Ynez wine country and offers a soothing serenade for visitors who want to slow down and enjoy bountiful country life!  The property is centrally located to all surrounding villages of Los Olivos, Solvang, Santa Ynez & Buellton, all about a 10-15 minute drive from the ranch! Amongst the quiet serenity that the Ranch at Canyon Ridge offers, enjoy their menagerie of farm animals including chickens, their four adorable goats:  Gidget, Buttercup, Sugarplum & Trixybell or Harriett & Mama Llama, their sweet llamas.
